The 16-year-old will be represented by Martin Wittenberg and Jessica Barra
The 16-year-old Canadian pianist Sophia Liu has joined the roster of Intermusica New York, where she will receive worldwide general management from Martin Wittenberg and Jessica Barra.
Liu was born in Shanghai and grew up in Japan, before relocating to Montreal to begin her studies with Dang Thai Son.
She has won numerous honors for her playing, including First Prize in Category A at the 18th Ettlingen International Piano Competition, First Prize at the Thomas & Evon Cooper International Competition, and Second Prize, Youngest Semifinalist Prize, and Audience Prize at the first edition of the Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli International Piano Competition.
She made her solo debut in 2023 with the Cleveland Orchestra and conductor David Robertson. Earlier in 2025 she played Saint-Saëns' Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice and Lionel Bringuier.
Upcoming debuts include an August 2025 performance with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse (Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 22) and a return to Japan in October 2025 with the NHK Symphony Orchestra and Eva Ollikainen.
In 2024, Liu released her debut album, which comprises a set of live recordings from her appearances at the Michelangeli Competition.
"While it is unusual for the agency to take on an artist so young, every care will be taken to ensure that Sophia Liu's career is nurtured safely, providing the guidance and resources needed to help her grow and succeed in the industry for years to come," the agency wrote in a statement.
