Joint 1st Prize Awarded at Carl Nielsen Violin Competition

 

Hans Christian Aavik, 23, is a graduate of the Frankfurt University of Music and Vienna University of Music studying with Erik Schumann, and is a current post-graduate student of Julian Rachlin. Aavik is a former major prize winner at the Kloster Schöntal International Violin Competition.

A current student at the International Menuhin Music Academy, 17-year-old Bohdan Luts’ teachers have included Oleg Kaskiv, Renaud Capuçon, Olga Korinets, Yaroslava Kataryna, and Maria Futorska. He is a former major prize winner at the Il Piccolo Violino Magico International Competition and the Lviv and Dolný Kubín International Violin Competitions.

Each will receive €12,000, an Ulf Eriksson and Duncan Duncan Emck violin bow, a CD recording with the Odense Symphony on the Orchid Classics label, plus a number of solo engagements with top Nordic orchestras.

No 2nd prize was awarded in this year's violin category.

3rd prize was presented finalist, 24-year-old Eun Che Kim.

The Semi-Final, Pre-Final and Final Rounds of this year's violin competition were streamed LIVE here on The Violin Channel and are available now for playback.

In addition to the violin, flute and clarinet competitions, the 2022 event will also include Expansiva!, a new in-person program designed to offer participants an off-stage platform to create connections with other musicians and music industry experts.

The 2022 violin jury comprises Noah Bendix-Balgley (Head Juror), Eugene Tichindeleanu, Albena Danialova, Tasmin Little, Judith Van Eeckhout, Mark Williams, and Baiba Skride.

Previous Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition major prize winners include Kathleen Winkler, Joji Hattori, Nikolaj Znaider, Jennifer Koh, Pekka Kuusisto, Adele Anthony, Hrachya Avanesyan — and VC Artists Josef Spacek, Ji Won Song, Luke Hsu, and Johan Dalene.
