Carr-Petrova Duo's New Album, "HERS"
The new album features all female composers, from the 13th century’s Hildegard Von Bingen to today’s Beyoncé
The Carr-Petrova Duo, comprised of violist Molly Carr and pianist Anna Petrova, have released their newest album, HERS, on EmpowHERS Records. The album invites audiences to share in the centuries of heartbreak, struggles, and triumphs that women experience. In particular, the new album features a single by violinist and composer Michelle Barzel Ross, titled “Where Things Weigh Nothing at All,” which was commissioned by the Carr-Petrova Duo.
HERS consists of works by Florence Price, Clara Schumann, Vivian Fung (based on the music by Hildegard Von Bingen), Amy Beach, Beyoncé, Andrea Casarrubios, Michelle Barzel Ross, and Rebecca Clarke. Both Andrea Casarrubios' "Magnitude" and Michelle Barzel Ross' "Where Things Weigh Nothing at All" were commissioned by the duo.
Through music and storytelling, HERS aims to celebrate the vision, resilience, and contributions of women throughout history. To purchase and listen to the album, click here.
The single, "Where Things Weigh Nothing at All," is based on Milan Kunera's novel, The Book of Laughter and Forgetting. The piece begins and ends in a dream-like state, with the viola and piano weaving in and out of the texture along with the listener.
