Catalyst Quartet Signs with Arts Management Group for Representation
The ensemble will receive representation in North, Central, and South America
The Catalyst Quartet joins a range of other prominent chamber ensembles on the Arts Management Group's (AMG) roster, including the Doric String Quartet, the Belcea Quartet, and Quatuor Ébène.
The Catalyst Quartet was formed by the Sphinx Organization in 2010 and is comprised of Karla Donehew Perez and Abi Fayette (violins), Paul Laraia (viola), and Karlos Rodriguez (cello). The ensemble has cultivated a particular focus on works by diverse and lesser-known composers.
The quartet's discography includes the UNCOVERED series, which introduces works by African-American composers that have not yet received the attention they deserve. These discs cover works by composers including Florence Price, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, George Walker, and William Grant Still.
The ensemble tours regularly throughout the United States and abroad, and has given sold-out performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., at Chicago’s Harris Theater, Miami’s New World Center, and Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall in New York.
The quartet has been Ensemble-in-Residence at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Chamber Music Northwest in Portland, Oregon. Its members hold degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Curtis Institute of Music, Juilliard School, and New England Conservatory.
You can hear the quartet perform "Go Down Moses" from Florence Price's Four Negro Folksongs below.
