Cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson Appointed Ambassador for the London Music Fund
The London Music Fund (LMF) has appointed Ayanna Wittner-Johnson as its new Ambassador and Trustee. A London native, Wittner-Johnson works across a wide range of styles and has received commissions from groups such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Kronos Quartet, and the Hip-Hop Shakespeare Company.
As part of her new role, Wittner-Johnson will act as a role model to the young musicians in the LMF scholarship program. The scholarship provides four years' worth of music lessons for children whose parents could not otherwise afford them. Alongside the cost of lessons, the scholars also receive access to a well-maintained instrument, ensemble training, trips to concerts and events, and the support of a mentor.
One of Wittner-Johnson's first tasks in her new role will be to perform alongside the graduating class of four-year scholars in their next workshop, which is due to take place at the Royal Academy of Music on Sunday July 3.
Other ambassadors for the LMF include Nicola Benedetti, YolanDa Brown, Jess Gillam, Chi-chi Nwanoku, and Simon Cowell.
"As a Londoner myself, I fully understand the importance of supporting young musicians in the capital on their musical journey," said Witter-Johnson.
"The LMF is undoubtedly creating life-changing opportunities for young musicians to thrive so I am truly honored to be joining as an Ambassador and Trustee and look forward to being part of the organization's fantastic work in our city," she added.
"We are thrilled to have Ayanna joining us both as an Ambassador and Trustee," said Chrissy Kinsella, the CEO of the London Music Fund. "As one of the UK’s most exciting and innovative young musicians, she brings a new voice to our work."
"Her personal experience as a young London musician will be integral to our future plans as we develop and grow as an organization, and I am certain that she will inspire the young people we work with, through her immense creative talent."
