American cellist and pedagogue, Gilda Barston has passed away, following a lengthy illness - aged 71

American cellist and pedagogue, Gilda Barston has passed away, following a lengthy illness - aged 71.

A student of Leonard Rose at The Juilliard School, she served as Principal Cellist with the Chicago String Ensemble - and on the teaching faculty of the Music Institute of Chicago, Northwestern University and DePaul University.

She also served as Artistic Director of the Chicago Suzuki Institute and CEO of the International Suzuki Association.
