Cellist Jacob Shaw Joins Faculty at Royal Northern College of Music
The British cellist and entrepreneur will step into the role in Manchester in September 2024
The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) has appointed cellist Jacob Shaw to its faculty, and he will step into the role in September 2024.
Born in London, Shaw received his early musical education at the UK's Yehudi Menuhin School, before pursuing further cello studies with Geneviève Teulières-Sommer at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. He has also studied at the Hochschule für Musik Augsburg and the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
He is the founder of the Scandinavian Cello School, a foundation that supports, promotes, and educates young cellists. In addition, Shaw created a boutique consultancy, which works with labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Warner Classics, and Universal Music.
Most recently, Shaw has been working as Director of Culture at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stevns Klint, at which he oversees all aspects of cultural, artistic, and event planning.
"The RNCM has a rich history of nurturing some of the most talented musicians in the world and time and time again I’ve met alumni in the profession who have raved about their experiences studying there," Shaw said.
"I searched long and hard for an institution which I believe shares my ethos — to give the my students careful support and chances in a wonderful and encouraging atmosphere," he added. "Over several visits to Manchester I have had more than a gut feeling that the place for [a] full-time class is the RNCM, and this is truly an incredible opportunity to contribute to a legacy that spans decades of excellence in music education and performance."
