Cellist Johannes Moser Releases “Song of the Birds” to Raise Money For Ukraine
Song of the Birds is a melody from Catalan folklore under the title El cant dels ocells. Born in Spain’s Catalonia region, cellist Pablo Casals first performed the piece for President John F. Kennedy at the White House in 1961. He performed it again ten years later when receiving the United Nations Peace Medal.
“Birds sing when they are in the sky, they sing: 'Peace, Peace, Peace.' It is a melody that Bach, Beethoven, and all the greats would have admired and loved,” said Casals of the piece in his UN acceptance speech.
Recently, cellist Johannes Moser has recorded and performed this work to help those in Ukraine by encouraging people to donate to Save The Children.
“If you enjoy the music, please donate to Save the Children Deutschland or any other humanitarian organization to help the ones in need!” Moser posted to Facebook in addition to a video.
Moser recently performed for Ukraine with Germany’s Saarländisches Staatstheater and conductor Kurt Sanderling. “I am donating to Save the Children US and you can do it too! Anything helps the ones most in need,” Moser wrote.
