Cellist Richard Aaron to join Faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music
The American cellist previously taught at the University of Michigan and The Juilliard School
The American cellist Richard Aaron, who has been teaching at the University of Michigan and The Juilliard School for several years, will join the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) at the beginning of the 2024 academic year.
Aaron is a noted pedagogue whose students have secured positions in notable orchestras and chamber music ensembles. His students have won First Prize at competitions — including the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, the ISANG YUN Competition in South Korea, and the Naumburg International Cello Competition in New York City — and gone on to play in the orchestras of Chicago, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and the Metropolitan Opera
Previously, Aaron taught at the Cleveland Institute of Music and the New England Conservatory. He has also taught at the Aspen Music Festival since 2003, among many other summer music institutes.
"It is a great honor to be invited to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music," Aaron said. "There is a wonderful pedagogical cello tradition in San Francisco which I am very excited to be joining."
"Richard Aaron's extraordinary work is evidenced through his exceptional students who hold premier positions throughout the world," said David Stull, the President of the SFCM. "He is a brilliant colleague and musician and his impact on our profession has been profoundly transformative. I am honored to welcome Richard to this marvelous faculty."
