Chetham's & Royal Northern College to Launch Orchestral Pathway for Chinese Musicians
Created for Chinese students aged between 10 and 17, the program offers a full education at Chetham's followed by the opportunity to audition for a Progression Scholarship to RNCM
Manchester's Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) and Chetham's School of Music have come together to launch a new partnership targeted at students from China. The Orchestral Pathway will create a seamless set of steps that guide students from age 10 through to a professional orchestral career.
Students aged between 10 and 17 can apply for a place at Chetham’s, which is the UK’s largest specialist music school for students under 18. They can then audition for a Progression Scholarship to study at the RNCM, which is currently ranked among the top five conservatoires in the world for music.
As well as the standard education at Chetham's, these students will receive additional performance, professional development, and learning opportunities from the RNCM’s network of professors and industry partners.
In addition to a high-quality education, the students will be afforded comprehensive and personalized support at every stage of the journey, including admissions, financial planning, and visa and immigration guidance.
They will also enjoy the opportunity to soak up all of the cultural offerings available in Manchester.
"The RNCM is proud to partner with Chetham’s School of Music to offer gifted young musicians from China an unparalleled opportunity to study at two world-leading institutions, right in the heart of one of the UK’s most vibrant and culturally rich cities," said Linda Merrick, Principal of the RNCM.
"This partnership marks an exciting chapter for both institutions," said Tom Redmond, Joint Principal and Director of Music at Chetham's School of Music. "Chetham’s has a long-standing reputation for nurturing young musical talent, including exceptional students from China, and we are delighted to create this seamless pathway into higher education with our close colleagues at the RNCM."
