Circa 1760 Charles & Samuel Thompson Violin Stolen in London

The violin was last seen on September 28, 2024, at a park near the Guildhall School of Music and Drama

A c.1760 violin crafted by Charles & Samuel Thompson has been reported missing since September 28, 2024, when it was stolen from a park near the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London’s Barbican area.

The instrument belongs to a young student who had only owned the violin for a few days.

A full-arched Stainer model, the English violin by Charles & Samuel Thompson has a two-piece back of plain maple wood, which is the same type of wood comprising the scroll and ribs of the violin.

The front of the instrument is made of irregular grained pine. Additionally, previous cracks on the belly and back of the violin have been repaired. The violin was held in a black rectangular case with a 3/4 size bow also inside.

If you have any information on the stolen violin, please contact Carys Barnes on 07903495224 or [email protected]. “Help is greatly appreciated,” Barnes writes.
