Classical Music Club Nights to Expand Across London for 2022

Created by London’s Through the Noise, the "noisenights" are their “vision for the future of classical music [as] informal crowdfunded events featuring international soloists in cabaret bars, converted warehouses, and nightclubs.”

Following sold-out shows for the first four "noisenights" — which included performances by cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and pianist Harry Baker — a further five were scheduled.

Through the Noise is an independent guide to the best events in live classical music events in London. Each "noisenight" showcases two short classical sets: one early in the evening and the other late.

All tickets to the late night set include live music for the rest of the night, including performances in the genres of jazz, latin, afrobeat, swing, and funk. Not only will audiences see some of the world’s best performers, but also be part of a community working toward a positive future for live music.

The upcoming "noisenight" on March 9 will feature singer Héloïse Werner and cellist Colin Alexander in a program including their own works and the world premiere of their joint composition.

On March 12, the Her Ensemble will take center stage, highlighting contemporary works and female composers. The group is the UK’s first women and non-binary orchestra.

In May, "noisenights" will see saxophonist Jess Gillam MBE perform music from her chart-topping album “TIME.” This music is inspired by minimalism and the program will also feature pioneering minimalist composers and new commissions.

Cellist Abel Selaocoe will perform in June 2022 as part of the Chesaba trio which specializes in African music. Selaocoe will feature on cello and voice; Sidiki Dembele on djembe, kora, n’goni, and African percussion; and Alan Keary on electric bass.

“I’m convinced that in 2022 we'll see even more diverse approaches to live performance appear as the industry continues to rebuild and reassess,” said Through the Noise co-founder and artistic director Jack Bazalgette. “noisenights have reached totally new audiences by tapping into pre-existing communities of music lovers who would never consider going to a concert hall but who'd happily queue up for their local club, and this new set of shows features some of our favorite artists from across the UK, all of whom are breaking the mold of what being a ‘classical’ artist means today.

“We were over the moon with the incredible response to our nights so far, and so we've moved these new shows to venues that are on average more than double the size of anything we've tried so far,” he added. “We can't wait to experience all the incredible music-making, and to meet all the new classical music lovers!”
