Colorado Symphony Hires New Associate Conductor

Conductor Wilbur Lin will assume role on a two-year contract in the 2024/25 concert season

Previously the Colorado Symphony’s Assistant Conductor, Wilbur Lin has now been promoted to the symphony’s Associate Conductor position, effective as of the 2024 through to the 2025/26 concert season.

Lin first joined the artistic staff for the Colorado Symphony before the 2023/24 season, when he was also appointed as Music Director of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra (DYAO).

In his first season with the Colorado Symphony, Lin led many acclaimed performances, including its tribute concerts and Family-Friendly and Youth Concert programs.

Lin’s work with the DYAO has also strengthened its artistic and educational partnership with the Colorado Symphony, which began in 2018. Through its annual side-by-side concerts, the partnership has also seen many DYAO alumni win positions throughout the Colorado Symphony.

“It has been amazing to see the impact Wilbur has had on both organizations in a short time,” said DYAO’s Executive Director, Kelly Waltrip in the press release. “We look forward to exciting projects in the coming seasons and deepening our partnership with the Colorado Symphony.”

Also recently appointed as Music Director of the Missouri Symphony, Lin has conducted the Chamber Philharmonic Taipei, Manchester Camerata, Taipei Philharmonic, Taipei Symphony, Liverpool Mozart, Academy Orchestra of Taiwan Symphony, and the Cincinnati Ballet, among others.

A graduate of Riccardo Muti’s Italian Opera Academy, Lin was a two-time recipient of the Mortimer Furber Prize for Conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) and holds a doctoral degree in orchestral conducting from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music

“I’m thrilled to extend this relationship with both the Colorado Symphony and the [DYAO], and to continue serving the community in Denver and beyond,” said Lin. “I deeply admire the inspiring artistry of my colleagues and the professionalism, dedication, and vision of the symphony’s staff.

“I look forward to creating more music, reaching more audiences, and deepening the artistic and educational impact of our collaboration,” he continued. “With many creative projects underway with the DYAO, I am also eager to see more of these come to fruition as we continue to equip the talented young musicians with what they need and deserve to advance and to achieve their dreams, within and outside of music.”

“We are thrilled to elevate Wilbur Lin to the position of Associate Conductor,” said Colorado Symphony’s president and CEO Mark Cantrell. “His passion for music, outstanding musicianship, and commitment to excellence make him an invaluable asset to our orchestra. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and witnessing the extraordinary contributions he will make on and off the podium.”

“All of us at the Colorado Symphony are delighted to continue our investment in Wilbur Lin,” added the symphony’s CCO Anthony Pierce. “Throughout this season, he has impressed us with his skills on and off the podium and we look forward to the contributions he’ll continue to make to both our orchestra and DYAO.”
