The Italian composer and curator will begin teaching in September 2025
The Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMDP) has appointed the Italian composer Clara Iannotta to its composition faculty. She will begin teaching students at the opening of the 2025/26 academic year.
Born in Italy and based in Berlin, Iannotta has had music commissioned and performed by groups including Arditti, Quatuor Diotima, Ensemble Intercontemporain, JACK, Klangforum Wien, Neue Vocalsolisten, Münchener Kammerorchester, Nikel, WDR, RSO Wien, and SWR Orchestra.
Her distinctions include being a fellow of the Berliner Künstlerprogramm des DAAD in 2013 and of Villa Médicis (Académie de France à Rome) in 2018–19. She received several prizes, including the Ernst von Siemens Composers’ Prize 2018, Hindemith-Preis 2018, Una Vita nella Musica Giovani 2019, and Premio Abbiati 2021.
Iannotta has released three composer-portrait discs: A Failed Entertainment (Edition RZ), Earthing (Wergo), and Moult (Kairos). All three albums received a place on the Bestenliste der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (German Record Critics’ Award).
Iannotta is a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin, and the artistic director of the Bludenzer Tage zeitgemäßer Musik. Previously, she has taught composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts (mdw) in Vienna.
Iannotta joins Gérard Pesson, Frédéric Durieux, and Stefano Gervasoni on the CNSMDP composition faculty.
"I am grateful, honored, and excited to join this institution — and give back to a place that gave me so much as a student," Iannotta said.
