He passed away from liver and pancreas cancer in 1897, aged 63 and is buried in the Zentralfriedhof Central Cemetery in Vienna

German composer and pianist Johannes Brahms was born on this day in 1833.

Born in Hamburg, Brahms started learning the piano at eight years of age.

He is sometimes grouped with Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven as one of the "Three Bs" of music, a comment originally made by the nineteenth-century conductor Hans von Bülow.
