Hungarian composer, piano virtuoso and conductor Franz Liszt died on this day in 1886 – aged 74.
He is remembered as one of the most important composers of the Romantic era - and one of the greatest pianists of all time.
He is also remembered for championing a number of prominent 19th Century composers including Richard Wagner, Hector Berlioz, Camille Saint-Saëns, Edvard Grieg and Alexander Borodin.
