Composer Sophia Jani and Violinist Teresa Allgaier's New Album, "Six Pieces For Solo Violin"
Released on Squama Recordings, the album presents six solo violin works challenging the notion of simplicity
Composer Sophia Jani and violinist Teresa Allgaier have released a new album, Six Pieces For Solo Violin. Released on Squama Recordings, the album features the work of the album's same name, composed by Sophia Jani between 2020 and 2023. The work challenges the notion of simplicity applied to the violin as an instrument, performed by Teresa Allgaier.
Sophia shares, "In October 2020, Teresa and I started meeting once a week, exploring the violin and gradually defining the framework within which we wanted to move. Starting from an electronic sound world that we initially had in mind, we finally ended up with this very purist approach, where the solo violin alone is the central focus, with ‘Triads’ as the first result."

Composer Sophia Jani is based in Munich, but from 2023-2025 is composer-in-residence with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. On June 9, the DSO gave the Munich premiere of Jani’s orchestral work Flare (2021) at the Isarphilharmonie as part of the orchestra’s European tour. Jani’s music has recently been performed across the U.S. by the New Jersey Symphony, Bang on a Can, pianist Eunbi Kim, and the Goldmund Quartet, among others.
Violinist Teresa Allgaier shifts her focus between classical contemporary music and experimental pop music. She works in collaboration with emerging composers and bands, performs with her string ensemble Kontai Ensemble, and writes music for her Chamber Pop duo Fallwander. As a soloist Teresa has performed with various orchestras in the past, interpreting violin concertos by Bach, Bruch, Mendelssohn, Khachaturian, Pärt, and Riley.
Together they are co-founders and artistic directors of Feet Become Ears, a platform that commissions, presents, and celebrates contemporary chamber music.
