In 2016, she became the first female principal conductor of an Australian orchestra when she took up the role with Queensland Symphony Orchestra, a position she held until 2019.

For the 2024 season, de la Parra will conduct the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, the Hallé Orchestra, Orchester Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, and Münchner Symphoniker.

Her conducting engagements have included the Orchestre de Paris, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, WDR Symphony Orchestra, Verbier Festival Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, and Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. She has also collaborated with the Royal Opera House London, Metropolitan Opera, and the American Ballet Theater.

The founder and artistic director of the Paax (Music) GNP Festival, de la Parra is also a reporter for the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle, where she has interviewed guests including John Malkovich, Jan Lisiecki, Gautier Capuçon, and Zenaida Yanowsky.

In 2004, she founded the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas (POA). Its first recording, “Mi Alma Mexicana” on Sony Classical reached the top 10 of the U.S. Billboard Classical Charts, and was the first classical recording in Mexico to achieve platinum sales.
