Conductor Dalia Stasevska Renews Contract at Finland's Lahti Symphony Orchestra

The Finnish conductor will remain in Lahti until July 2025

 

Finnish conductor Dalia Stasevska has added another year to her term as Principal Conductor of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, and will remain in the post until July 2025. She has held the post since 2021, alongside a position Artistic Director of the Sibelius Festival.

A past student of Jorma Panula and Leif Segerstam, Stasevska is presently Principal Guest Conductor of BBC Symphony Orchestra. She has made several appearances at the BBC Proms, including at the First Night of the Proms in 2023.

During the 2023/24 season, she guest conducts the Cleveland Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra,Danish National Symphony Orchestra, hr-Sinfonieorchester, Deutsches Symphonie-OrchesterBerlin, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Berner Symphonieorchester, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

In 2023, Stasevska made her debut at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival with a revival of the iconic Peter Hall production of Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In previous seasons, she returned to Finnish National Opera and Ballet to conduct a double bill of Poulenc’s La voix humane and Weill’s Songs with Karita Mattila, and to Norske Opera to conduct Madama Butterfly and Lucia di Lammermoor.

"Dalia Stasevska is one of Finland’s most sought-after conductors internationally, and despite the high demand we have been able to secure a one-year extension from her," said Maija Kylkilahti, the orchestra's acting general manager. "Her visits to Lahti have brought wonderful experiences both to the audience and to the orchestra."

"I am delighted to continue as the Lahti Symphony Orchestra’s principal conductor," Stasevska said. "I have developed a close relationship with the orchestra and the city. I am sincerely grateful for the support and assistance given to Ukraine in particular."
