Hamilton Philharmonic Extends Music Director Contract
The orchestra, based in Hamilton, Ontario, announced the contract renewal of Music Director Gemma New through the 2023-24 season
New has held the position since the spring of 2015.
A graduate of the Peabody Institute of Music and the University of Canterbury, Gemma previously served as a Dudamel Conducting Fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and currently serves as the Principal Guest Conductor of the Dallas Symphony.
“Gemma’s vision in programming ambitious and engaging works for the mainstage along with developing new and diverse programs for the community has brought the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra to new heights,” says Anne Tennier, Chair of the Board of Directors. “We are delighted that we will continue to share in Gemma’s artistic vision and leadership.”
“It has been a true joy to work with the musicians and staff of the HPO these past six seasons,” New said. “Together, we have seen the orchestra grow and reach new audiences throughout the Hamilton region. I look forward to leading the HPO's artistic vision in the coming seasons.”
