Remembered as one of the finest conductors of the 20th Century, he served principal conducting positions with the Hallé Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Houston Symphony, BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
