Cremona's Museo del Violino Appoints New Curator
Riccardo Angeloni will step into the role at the museum
Luthier and conservator Riccardo Angeloni has recently been appointed as the new Curator of the Museo del Violino in Cremona, Italy. He succeeds Fausto Cacciatori, who has been stewarding the museum's collections since 2013.
Angeloni initially trained as a luthier and graduated from the International School of Violin Making. He then studied Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, a specialized course at the University of Pavia that is the only degree course in Italy that covers the restoration of musical instruments.
He has previously worked for the Arvedi Laboratory of Non-Invasive Diagnostics, the Swabian Museum of Trieste, the National Museum of Musical Instruments in Rome, and the Civic Museum of Modena. During his training, he participated in projects with the University of Edinburgh and the Correr Museum in Venice.
The appointment committee comprised Chiara Bondioni (Director of the Culture and Tourism Sector of the Municipality of Cremona), Fausto Cacciatori (Conservator of the Violin Museum Foundation), Bruce Carlson (MdV Scientific Committee), Michela Cascasi (official of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism), Gabriele Rossi Rognoni (Conservator of the Royal College of Music), and Virginia Villa, general director of the Violin Museum.
"The appointment of our first graduate as curator of the Violin Museum is news that fills us with joy and satisfaction," said Massimiliano Guido, president of the degree course in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. "It is one of the many signals that have been reaching us in recent months, confirming the quality of the professional training course on musical and scientific instruments, unique in Italy, which our University opened in 2016."
