British cellist Denis Vigay has passed away – aged 89.

A student of Cedric Sharpe, he served as Principal Cellist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Symphony and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields - and held a long term teaching position on faculty at the London's Royal Academy of Music.

Our condolences are with Mr Vigay's family, friends, colleagues and students.
