Deutsche Oper Berlin Appoints New Concertmaster
Violinist Roberta Verna will begin her trial in September 2025
Violinist Roberta Verna has won a trial period as concertmaster of Deutsche Oper Berlin and will begin the trial in September 2025.
Verna studied with Daniel Gaede at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg, and then Herwig Zack at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg. During her studies, Verna appeared with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and Verbier Festival Orchestra. She also served as a concertmaster of the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra — where she worked with renowned conductors including Daniel Harding and Mariss Jansons.
She has also given solo recitals at the Kissinger Winterzauber and the Arbanassi Summer Music Festival in Bulgaria.
In 2017, Verna and her brother Richard, a cellist, were the youngest-ever winners of the City of Würzburg's Cultural Promotion Prize. Since 2020, Verna has held an academy position with the Bavarian State Orchestra.
Verna plays a 1703 Stradivari, provided to her by the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben through the German Musical Instrument Fund’s competition.
"I’m thrilled to tell you that I will officially start my trial as first Concertmaster at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin from September 2025," Verna wrote.
"I am truly honored to receive this opportunity and happy to share this news here. [I am] looking forward to a very new chapter in my life."
