New York’s Metropolitan Opera has announced the appointment of 22-year-old British double bassist Edward Francis-Smith to its bass section
New York’s Metropolitan Opera has this week announced the appointment of 22-year-old British double bassist Edward Francis-Smith to its bass section.
A graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Harold Robinson and Edgar Meyer, Edward has performed previously with ensembles, including the London Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony, Welsh National Opera, BBC Scottish Symphony and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
"I'm honored and excited to begin working in the Met bass section next season … it’s a dream to be part of such an incredible tradition and I can't wait to get started,” Edward has told The Violin Channel.
