Edward J. Lewis Stands Down as CEO of Caramoor
Lewis has been in the role since 2021
Caramoor, a 90-acre estate and arts center in Katonah, NY, has announced that its CEO Edward J. Lewis III is to stand down. Lewis was first appointed to the position in 2021.
Over the course of his tenure there, Lewis implemented a new five-year strategic plan. He also significantly broadened the center's offerings, adding dance and other non-classical media into the mix. In the two years following the pandemic, the center broke its own records for ticket sales, and Lewis attributes this positive change to the wider variety of events offered.
A further highlight of Lewis's tenure was the establishment of a major gifts program — the first in Caramoor's 79-year history — to help secure the center's financial future.
Prior to his appointment at Caramoor, Lewis was vice chancellor for advancement at the University of North Carolina's School of the Arts, and senior director of development at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland, College Park.
"We are extremely fortunate to have found someone of Ed’s caliber to lead us on the next leg of our journey," said Caramoor Chairman James A. Attwood, Jr at the time of Lewis's initial appointment. "He is an accomplished musician and a seasoned leader. When it comes to fundraising and management in the arts, his level of experience and expertise is exceptional. What’s more, his passion for excellence, innovation, inclusivity, and audience development aligns perfectly with ours."
