2022 Eurovision Young Musicians Competition Announces Winners
The competition’s first prize was awarded to 17-year-old violinist Daniel Matejča representing the Czech Republic
Founded in 1982, the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition (EYMC) is a biennial event that provides a platform for international emerging classical musicians aged 12–21, to pursue music careers. This year has seen the competition return for its 20th edition after a four-year hiatus.
First prize of EYMC 2022 went to violinist Daniel Matejča, who won with his rendition of the third and fourth movements of the Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1 with the National Orchestra of Montpellier Occitanie and conductor Pierre Dumoussaud.
The first musician to collect an EYMC win for the Czech Republic, Matejča was selected out of nine finalists from nine countries. Additionally, he will have the opportunity to perform at the 2023 Festival de musique Radio France Occitanie Montpellier.
EYMC 2022’s second prize went to 19-year-old German cellist Philipp Schupelius and third place was awarded to violinist Alma Serafin Kraggerud, 15, from Norway.
Chaired by Müza Rubackyté, the competition jury comprised Nora Cismondi, Jean-Pierre Rousseau, Christian-Pierre La Marca, and Tedi Papavrani.
This is the first time France has held the EYMC, with Radio France hosting the event as part of Festival de musique Radio France Occitanie Montpellier and in collaboration with France Télévisions and presenters Judith Chaine and Vincent Delbushaye.
