New Month-Long WOMEN NOW Festival to Celebrate Living Female Composers
Entitled "WOMEN NOW", the month-long spotlight festival will be held between March 5 and March 26, to celebrate International Women's Month.
Much of the festival will take place live at The Box Factory in Queens. The festival's opening concert features soprano Yvette Keong and pianist Nicole Cloutier in a program of music by Tonia Ko, Libby Larsen, Thea Musgrave, and others. The next concert features violin-piano duos performed by Ariel Horowitz and Alexa Stier, while pianist Sarah Cahill will also give a lecture-recital on a range of female composers.
While many of the events will be held live, there will also be a range of virtual events which can be attended remotely online. On March 8, Extensity is moderating a panel discussion on diversity and equity in classical/new music with the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), the American Composers Forum (ACF), the Sphinx Organization, and the International Alliance of Women in Music.
Additionally, there will be a virtual interview with composer Andrea Casarrubios, whose new cello concerto, "Armadura," has been commissioned especially for the festival and will be performed at its final concert by cellist Christine Lamprea.
Tickets are available from Extensity's website.
