Finalists Announced at Italy's 2022 "Il Piccolo Violino Magico" Competition
The Final Rounds are being streamed LIVE on The Violin Channel from July 8-10, 2022
Five young violinists have progressed to the Final Round of the 2022 Il Piccolo Violino Magico Competition, which is taking place this week in San Vito al Tagliamento, Italy. The finalists will perform on July 10, to be streamed LIVE on The Violin Channel.
The finalists are:
- Koch Kira Elisabeth
- Peña Aguirre Juan Jose
- Unseld Edna
- Chia Mark
- Demetriades Sofia
Open to violinists of any nationality 13-years-old and younger, the first prize winner will receive €5,000, an instrument made by contemporary Italian violin maker Fabio Piagentini, and a number of important concert engagements.
The 2022 jury comprises Pavel Vernikov (President of the Jury), Elisa Citterio, Aleksey Igudesman, Min Lee, Ruta Lipinaityte, Jacob Soelberg, Svetlana Makarova, and Eduard Wulfson.
The participants have the opportunity to play with the Accademia d’Archi Arrigoni Orchestra and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region Orchestra.
The Violin Channel recently discussed the upcoming competition with Domenico Mason, head of the competition. When asked if the jury is ultimately searching for the strongest players at this moment or those showing the best potential, he responded:
"At this young age, even a few months makes a difference, and often, candidates reappear in subsequent editions. Deciding whether what you feel today is a real potential for tomorrow or if you have only imagined tomorrow’s potential today, is partly a gamble. In front of such young candidates, it is a really difficult choice but it is also the 'Magic' of Il Piccolo Violino…"
