Finalists Announced at Tibor Junior International Violin Competition
The three finalists will compete for the top prize in Sion, Switzerland
Hosted by the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition, the 4th edition of the International Tibor Junior Violin Competition is taking place in Sion, Switzerland, from August 19 to 24. The three finalists are Viktor Vasilev, Corina Deng, and Qingyuan Yang.
In the final, the three violinists will perform J.S. Bach's "Erbarme dich, mein Gott" from the St Matthew Passion, BWV 244, alongside Marie-Claude Chappuis and the South Czech Philharmonic, a solo violin encore of their choice, and a choice of the following with the South Czech Philharmonic and conductor Jan Talich.
- Tchaikovsky: Valse-Scherzo Op.34, TH58
- Paganini: La Campanella
- Waxman: Carmen Fantasy
- Saint-Saëns: Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso in A minor, Op.28
- Sarasate: Zigeunerweisen Op.20
First Prize in the competition amounts to 5,000 CHF, while Second and Third Prizes are 2,000 CHF and 1,000, respectively. Special prizes include the best interpretation of the commissioned work, and the Audience Prize — each prize is worth 500 CHF.
Other awards include the one-year loan of a Nicola Gagliano c.1735 violin from Atelier Schilbach.
The 2024 jury comprises Pavel Vernikov, Marie-Claude Chappuis, Mario Hossen, Alessandro Padovan, Ana Sokolovic, and Alexandre Vinnitski.
