The Dutch conductor will leave his post at the New York Philharmonic after the orchestra’s 2023-24 season
He originally planned to leave the role in 2023 when his initial contract was to expire. However, according to NY Phil’s President and CEO Deborah Borda, he will stay on an extra year to give the ensemble time to return to the newly renovated David Geffen Hall in 2022
A violin student of Dorothy DeLay, he was awarded the concertmaster's position of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra aged just 19 — a position he served for 16 years.
After transitioning to conducting, Maestro Zweden served as the Music Director of the Dallas Symphony from 2008-2018 and is currently Music Director of the Hong Kong Philharmonic.
