French violin virtuoso and composer Émile Sauret died on this day in 1920 – 98 years ago – aged 67.

A protégé of Charles de Beriot and Henri Vieuxtemps, he composed over 100 solo works for the violin – most notably his virtuosic cadenza for Paganini’s 1st Violin Concerto.
