Fundraiser Launched for Cellist Suffering Spinal Injuries from Car Accident
The Nashville-based cellist Amber Den Exter, who is suffering from paralysis due to her injuries, is currently receiving treatment in Houston
A recent car crash in Houston, Texas, has left cellist Amber Den Exter with two spinal fractures and spinal cord injury, which has resulted in extensive paralysis.
Den Exter has been a performer and cello teacher in Nashville and middle Tennessee for over 25 years. She earned degrees in cello from the New Zealand School of Music, Middle Tennessee State University, and a music doctorate from Florida State University.
A GoFundMe page has been launched to assist with her medical bills and financial support for the time she is unable to work. The fundraiser has since raised over $20,000.
“Regretfully, my wife Amber, was involved in a car accident on April 24, 2025 … the injuries are pretty serious,” wrote her husband, Rod Den Exter, a luthier, bow repair, and rehair specialist at Nashville’s Williams Fine Violins.
“She is currently recovering from corrective surgeries and she will be pursuing intensive physical rehabilitation to attempt to restore some if not all of her mobility,” he continued. “Amber currently has extensive paralysis that we hope will be temporary. In any case, Amber’s outlook remains positive and we are so glad to still have her with us.
“Amber and I have set up this GoFundMe to cover medical bills and because she will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. If you are so inclined to donate, we would be immensely thankful. We are grateful for the support we have received, rather here or the well wishes and thoughts. We will keep you updated on Amber’s progress over the coming months.”
