Geneva’s Orchestra de la Suisse Romande Presents a Hologram Concert
Featuring Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, the first ever hologram symphony concert will be held in January 2024
Comprising 73 musicians, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande’s (OSR) first hologram symphony concert will take place from January 25–28, 2024 as part of the 12th artgenève fair.
In collaboration with the company Cybel’Art, the OSR was filmed via motion capture while performing Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition with conductor Ana María Patiño-Osorio in Switzerland’s Théâtre de Beaulieu.
Surrounded by green screens, each musician’s gestures, facial expressions, bow movements, and silences were recorded through the Icologram® technology invented by Cybel’Art in 2019.
This is the first time in 70 years that the OSR has pioneered new broadcasting methods—the OSR made the very first symphonic stereophonic recording with its conductor and founder Ernest Ansermet in 1954.
Additionally, OSR’s hologram footage recorded in September 2023 will be used to develop an online teaching module, which will allow the public to interact with the orchestra. To reach wider audiences, the OSR is also studying possibilities in developing an application using a virtual reality headset.
