Georgia State University School of Music Hires New Assistant Professor of Violin
Dr. Serena Scibelli will assume the role in the fall of 2025
The Georgia State School of Music’s appointment of Dr. Serena Scibelli comes as the school continues to expand its faculty. She will succeed a retiring faculty member, teaching both undergraduate and graduate students and overseeing the violin studio.
Originally from Italy, Scibelli has performed in major concert halls worldwide, including Milan’s La Scala, Wiener Musikverein, and the Royal Opera House in Muscat. She has also premiered over 50 new works with the aim of expanding the violin repertoire.
Scibelli’s prior roles included serving as assistant professor and string area coordinator at Mississippi State University, and in a faculty position at the University of North Georgia. Her teaching experience further extends to presenting masterclasses and clinics at institutions across the U.S. and Europe.
Her other roles include being the development coordinator and interim executive director of HEART MUSIC, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing arts education and access.
Scibelli is a graduate of the Conservatory L. Cherubini in Florence and the Conservatory A. Steffani in Castelfranco Veneto. She later earned a second master’s and doctorate degree in violin performance from Georgia University.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Serena Scibelli to our faculty,” said Interim Director of the School of Music Dr. Stuart Gerber. “Her wealth of experience as a performer and educator, coupled with her passion for mentoring students, will have a tremendous impact on the growth and development of our violin studio. Dr. Scibelli’s dynamic career and commitment to excellence will undoubtedly enrich the musical lives of our students.”
“We are absolutely thrilled to add Dr. Scibelli to our GSU string team!” added Director of Orchestral Studies Dr. Tamara Dworetz. “Her ability to connect with students is unparalleled, and her artistry, pedagogy, and mentorship will be an incredible gift to our violin students and string/orchestra area!”
“I am honored and excited to join the Georgia State University School of Music,” Scibelli expressed. “My greatest passion is teaching and empowering students to grow into the best version of themselves, not only as musicians but also as global citizens. I am looking forward to building a studio that feels like family, where students support one another and grow together.”
