GoFundMe Launched for Injured New York Violinist
Denise Stillwell, who regularly appears on Broadway and at Radio City Music Hall, has fractured both her wrists in a serious car accident
New York violinist Denise Stillwell is presently recovering from injuries sustained during a multi-vehicle crash while she was visiting her mother in Florida. Stillwell sustained two broken wrists and her sense of balance is currently impaired.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help the violinist. At the time of writing, the page had raised $29,000 towards the costs of Stillwell's recovery. If you would like to make a contribution, you can do so here.
"Due to her medical needs, Denise will be out of work for several months," wrote Stillwell's friends. "No income during what we all know are challenging times to begin with will be tough. Any assistance until she has her instrument(s) in her hands and under her chin again would help her immensely. Also, please feel free to reach out to Denise herself to see how things are going, as keeping in good spirits is a vital part of the recovery process."
Stillwell's left wrist is particularly problematic since it was shattered on one side and fractured on the other. This means she will need to undergo two surgeries, the first of which has already taken place at Florida's Hospital for Special Surgery.
The second surgery is due in November, and Stillwell is fundraising towards travel costs to Florida. She will also need to cover costs for the time spent as an outpatient, and while she undergoes physical therapy.
A graduate of The Juilliard School, Stillwell has performed in across the United States, South America, Europe, Asia, and the UK. Previously a member of the Santa Fe Opera and Palm Beach Opera Orchestras, she currently performs on Broadway, at Radio City Music Hall, and in several orchestras in the Tri-State area.
