Gustavo Dudamel to Conduct Charity Concert in Aid of Victims of Spanish Floods
The concert will take place in Valencia and feature local orchestras, choirs, and soloists
On February 3, 2025, the Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel will lead a charity concert in support of those affected by the devastating Spanish floods of October 2024. The concert will feature the Orquesta de Valencia and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana.
The program will include Albares, a trumpet concerto written for Pacho Flores, with Flores himself as a soloist — as well as Mahler's Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection," with the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana, the Jove Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, students of the Conservatory of Music "Joaquín Rodrigo," and soloists soprano Sandra Hamaoui and mezzo-soprano Eva Kroon.
The concert will take place in the Iturbi Hall of the Palau de la Música.
Born in 1981, Dudamel was appointed Music Director of the Simón Bolívar Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela when he was just 18 years old. He gained international attention when he won the inaugural Bamberger Symphoniker Gustav Mahler Competition in 2004.
In 2006, he became Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and is still in that position today. He is Music and Artistic Director-designate of the New York Philharmonic, and will begin his work on the East Coast in 2026.
Dudamel boasts an impressive reach across popular culture, and has performed at the Academy Awards and the Olympics. He has also worked with pop icons such as Billie Eilish, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, Gwen Stefani, Coldplay, and Nas.
In 2024, Dudamel received both the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute Award for Excellence and the 2024 Academy of Achievement Golden Plate Award.
