Bass Alexander Roslavets, dancer Ana Torrequebrada, and violinist Sebastian Deutscher have been named as the recipients of the 2024 Young Talent Prizes from the Hamburg Opera Foundation. Each artist receives a cash prize of €8,000.
Originally from Belarus, Alexander Roslavets studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory of St. Petersburg with Nikolai Okhotnikov. He is the winner of the Russian National Competition in Saint Petersburg, the Obraztsova Competition, Moscow Vishnevskaya Competition, and the Eva Marton Competition Budapest.
Roslavets joined the ensemble of the Hamburg Staatsoper in 2016, and made his debut in the role of Monterone in Verdi's Rigoletto.
Sebastian Deutscher is Section Leader of the Second Violins in the Hamburg State Orchestra. He studied with Werner Scholz at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin and with Antje Weithaas at the Berlin University of the Arts, as well as with Sebastian Hamann at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
"[The prizewinners] were set apart by their special talent, commitment, work and dedication to their art," said Ulrike Schmidt, the foundation's managing director.
According to opera director Georges Delonon, Roslavets "showed constant and outstanding artistic development," while Torrequebrada is characterized by "very good technique with strong expression and impressive personality," according to ballet director and chief choreographer John Neumeier. General Music Director Kent Nagano commented that Deutscher "is significantly involved in shaping the sound in the orchestra and thus points to the future."
