Hilary Hahn Cancels Weekend Performances
The GRAMMY-winning violinist has withdrawn from concerts with the San Francisco Symphony concerts due to illness
Hilary Hahn was scheduled to perform Brahms’ Violin Concerto this weekend in concerts from May 11-13, 2023, with the San Francisco Symphony (SFS) and debuting guest conductor Rafael Payare.
Since making her debut with SFS in 1999, she has often been a visiting performer. Though she last appeared with the orchestra in 2012, she has given many solo recitals with the organization, most recently in March this year.
“To my terrific fans in the Bay Area and beyond, I am so sorry to have to cancel my performances with the San Francisco Symphony this weekend due to illness,” Hahn posted on Facebook.
“I’m making sure to rest, so that I can recover and return fresh and healthy,” she continued. “My management is working with the Symphony to get me back in SF as soon as possible. Thank you all so much for understanding. I hope to see you soon, and happy spring!”
Stepping in for Hahn is pianist Bruce Liu, who will make his debut with the SFS as soloist with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3. The 2021 winner of the Chopin International Piano Competition, Liu will also be making his New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall on May 19, 2023.
We wish Hilary Hahn a speedy recovery!
