Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin Seeking Two Violin Professors
With applications closing on September 14, 2024, successful candidates will begin tenure on October 1, 2025
Founded in 1950, the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin (HfM Hanns Eisler) provides training to around 500 students at two locations in Berlin, and is currently seeking two professors of violin.
Successful candidates will teach violin as a main subject in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs, and work closely alongside others to develop pedagogical concepts and projects.
The first role is a Professorship in the field of violin at a full-time (100%) capacity — the teaching obligation is 18 semester hours per week. Male, female, and diverse (m/f/d) applicants are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will succeed Stephan Picard in the role. To apply for this position, click here.
The second role is a Professorship in the field of violin at a part-time (50%) capacity — the role requires nine semester hours per week of teaching. To apply for this second position, click here.
Remuneration for both roles is set at the salary group W3, which is around €6,500 to €7,600 per month, according to the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
A CV, references, and letters of motivation will be accepted until September 14, 2024. Applicants wishing to apply for both vacancies must submit two separate applications.
Applicants should demonstrate artistic personality and many years’ experience as a soloist and chamber musician in the international concert field, as well as a completed university degree in violin (Master, Diploma). It is desirable that candidates take up residence in Berlin.
“The HfM aims to increase the proportion of women in teaching staff and therefore strongly encourages women to apply,” the application forms read. “Applications from people with a migration background are also expressly welcome. Severely disabled applicants will be given priority if they are equally qualified.”
The successful candidates will be involved in the over 300 annual events, where students showcase their artistic development as soloists, chamber musicians, and ensemble members.
New hirees will also join renowned string faculty members including Nicolas Altstaedt, Kolja Blacher, Antje Weithaas, Ning Feng, Matthew McDonald, and VC Artist Diyang Mei, who was recently appointed principal violist of the Berlin Philharmonic.
