International Karol Lipiński Violin Competition Announces 2024 Winners
The South Korean violinist Sunjae Ok has won first place with a €15,000 cash prize
Founded in 2007, Poland’s International Karol Lipiński Violin Competition has recently completed its sixth edition. Open to players born between 1989 and 2005, the competition has attracted exceptional young violinists from around the world.
The first prize winner was Sunjae Ok from South Korea, who will receive €15,000. Second prize of €10,000 went to Lorenz Karls from Sweden, and third prize of €6,000 was awarded to South Korean violinist Wonbeen Chung.
All three finalists performed with conductor Dainius Pavilionis and the Toruń Symphony Orchestra.
Winners awarded with Distinction included Carla Marrero Martínez of Spain, the Polish violinist Hanna Pozorska, and Sarah Jégou-Sageman from France; they will each win a €2,000 cash prize.
In 2024, the competition jury comprised Daniel Stabrawa (chair), Dainius Pavilionis, Jakub Jakowicz, Rūta Lipinaitytė, and Philip A. Draganov.
The laureates of the competition recently performed in the official Winners’ Concert on October 6, at CKK Jordanki in Toruń, which also featured the formal awarding of the main and special prizes.
