International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove Releases Podcast Series
Presented by cellist Steven Isserlis, the podcast features interviews with Thomas Adès, Dame Imogen Cooper, Sir András Schiff, and more
Commissioned to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the International Musicians Seminar (IMS) Prussia Cove has completed a six-part podcast series exploring its rich history in gathering musicians together in Cornwall each year, and its impact on future generations.
Introduced by IMS Artistic Director Steven Isserlis, the series is narrated by Samuel West and features interviews with IMS alumni including Thomas Adès, Dame Imogen Cooper, András Keller and Sir András Schiff.
First launched in 2022, the podcast also highlights clips from the archives and on-location recordings with the president of the Three Spires Singers, Petroc Trelawny (BBC Radio 3), and the late IMS founders Sándor Végh and Hilary Tunstall-Behrens.
The first two episodes can be heard below.
Founded in the 1970s by the Hungarian violinist Sándor Végh, the IMS has since held its annual Masterclasses and Open Chamber Music seminar for musicians worldwide.
This year’s IMS Masterclasses will feature Anthony Marwood, Gerhard Schulz, Tomo Keller, Kim Kashkashian, Thomas Riebl, Ralph Kirshbaum, David Waterman, and Isserlis working with Claudio Martinez-Mehner and Thomas Adès for the piano classes.
“Some of my most satisfying musical experiences have been at IMS,” Isserlis said. “The sense of pure musical idealism that has been the chief aim of the seminar since it began, produces a sort of magic that is unique.”
