International Society of Bassists Announces 2025 Jane Little Scholarship Recipient
Jayden Im of Ann Arbor, Michigan, will receive the $10,000 scholarship
Established in 2022, the annual scholarship is given to a female double bass major entering college as a freshman. Worth $10,000, the award is in honor and memory of Jane Little, former member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and one of the world's longest-serving professional orchestra musicians.
This year's recipient is Jayden Im. A National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Jayden has been accepted to study at Rice University with Paul Ellison.
Also a pianist and flutist, she has been playing bass for three years and currently studies with Derek Weller. She is an honors graduate from Washtenaw Technical Middle College as a high school student.
Im has played in the Concordia College Symphony, Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Michigan All State High School Orchestra. She is a two-time nominee for the Michigan Band and Orchestra Association's Outstanding Soloist award, and has participated in the Interlochen Double Bass Intensive, Philadelphia International Music Festival "Music in the Mansion" program, Domaine Forget, and the Tanglewood Double Bass Workshop.
"The panel was once again impressed and moved by the quality of the applicants, both musically and in terms of character as evidenced by their statements and references," writes the International Society of Bassists.
