Joint-1st Prize Awarded at Korea’s IsangYun International Cello Competition
Christine Jeong Hyoun Lee and Sang Eun Lee have been awarded joint-1st prize at the 2018 IsangYun International Cello Competition
27-year-old Christine Jeong Hyoun Lee from South Korea and 25-year-old Sang Eun Lee from South Korea have been awarded joint-1st prize at the 2018 IsangYun International Cello Competition – in Tongyeong, South Korea.
3rd prize was awarded to 28-year-old Lev Sivkov from Russia.
A graduate of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapelle, Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School, where she studied with Gary Hoffman, Joel Krosnick, Peter Wiley, Carter Brey and Jeroen Reuling, Christine is a former laureate of the Queen Elisabeth International Cello Competition - and former prize winner at the Dr Luis Sigall International Cello Competition, in Chile.
A graduate of the Korean National University and the Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied with Peter Wiley, Sangmin Park and Myunwha Chung, Sang Eun is a former prize winner at the Young Concert Artists International Auditions - and the Emmanuel Feuermann and Johansen International Cello Competitions.
Open to international cellists aged between 15 and 30, both 2018 1st prize winners will receive KRW 30,000,000 (USD $27,000) – plus a number of important debut opportunities.
The 2018 jury comprised: Myungwha Chung (Chair), Kangho Lee, Jian Wang, Ko Iwasaki, Alexander Knyazev, Paul Katz, Valentin Erben, Luigi Piovano and Anssi Karttunen.
