Israel Philharmonic Appoints New Principal Double Bassist
American bassist Alexander Edelmann is set to begin in his new role beginning this October
"So much looking forward to spending the upcoming season as Principal Bass of the Israel Philharmonic," Edelmann shared in a social media announcement. "Tons of amazing orchestral repertoire to explore, Hebrew to learn, and food to eat; I can’t wait to play with this great band!"
A student of Todd Seeber, Matthew McDonald, and Rick Stotjin, Edelmann is a graduate of Boston University and the Hochshule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, with additional studies at the Robert Schumann Hochshule Düsseldorf and Kronberg Academy.
He has played as principal bass of the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra, Royal Danish Orchestra, and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, among other ensembles.
The 2021-2022 season marks the IPO's 85th anniversary and is the inaugural season for the new music director Lahav Shani.
