Italy’s Teatro Sociales di Como Appoints New President

Dominique Meyers will assume the role, effective immediately

Teatro Sociale di Como — AsLiCo’s Assembly of Associates has unanimously elected Dominique Meyer as its new president. Meyer will succeed Simona Roveda, who served in the role for four years.

An economist and cultural manager, Meyer was most recently the general manager and artistic director of Milan’s Teatro alla Scala. Previously, he was general manager of the Wiener Staatsoper, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and general director of the Opéra National de Paris.

Currently, he is the executive director of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra alongside his new presidency at Teatro Sociale di Como.

At AsLiCo, Meyer will work to maintain its aims to share art on a local and international level with projects and co-productions that transverse cultural borders.

Meyer is also a long-time supporter of Teatro Sociale and AsLiCo, where he has been part of the jury for the AsLiCo International Competition for Young Opera Singers for 30 years, presiding over the event for the past decade.

“I am very happy and honored to have been elected President of Teatro Sociale di Como – AsLiCo, and I thank the board for its trust,” Meyer said. “I am very pleased to work with Barbara Minghetti, Giovanni Vegeto, and the entire team, whom I have known for years and greatly admire for their professional and human qualities.

“I fully share the institution’s focus on supporting young artists, its policies of social inclusion and access to culture — especially for children — and its active collaboration with OperaLombardia,” he added. “In this way, I hope to give back a good part of what my profession has given me over nearly thirty-five years.”

“[Meyer is] someone we deeply value and we are sure will further enrich our Theatre’s contribution to the urban and international community,” Teatro Sociale di Como posted on Facebook. “A special thank you also to our outgoing President, Simona Roveda, who has been with us these last four years. We can’t wait to start this new journey together.”
