Described as the ‘spiritual son of Stephane Grappelli’, Mr Lockwood shot to fame in the 1970s as a member of the progressive/jazz fusion band Magma - before going on to record more than 20 solo fusion albums and found his own improvisational school in Paris.
He is survived by his wife, soprano Patricia Petibon and their three children.
Our condolences are with his family, friends, colleagues and students.
