Joshua Bell and Dalia Stasevska to Give Benefit Concert for Ukraine
On January 10, 2024, in Poland, the concert will feature the world premiere recording of Ukrainian composer Thomas de Hartmann's Violin Concerto
Violinist Joshua Bell and conductor Dalia Stasevska have come together to present a benefit concert in support of Ukraine. Taking place on January 10, 2024, at 7:30 PM in the Warsaw Philharmonic Hall, in Poland, the concert will feature a program of all-Ukrainian composers.
The music to be played includes Thomas de Hartmann’s Violin Concerto, along with Myroslav Skoryk’s Melody (in its symphonic arrangement), Valentin Silvestrov’s Hymne, and Yevhen Stankovych’s Sinfonietta.
The concert will be recorded, and Bell and Stasevska's interpretation of the de Hartmann concerto will be released — as a world premiere recording of the work. The pair will be joined by the INSO-Lviv Symphony Orchestra.
"I am honored to be part of the ongoing effort to bring Thomas de Hartmann’s works to life," Joshua Bell said. "When I first encountered his violin concerto, a work inspired by the toils of war, I was deeply struck by its soulful beauty — and shocked that such a work had received such little recognition. The concerto is both heart-wrenching and uplifting, and is as gripping and relevant today as it was when it was composed in 1943."
"I am especially grateful to be recording and performing this work with such talented and dedicated artistic partners as Dalia Stasevska and the Inso-Lviv Orchestra," he continued. "Thanks to this project, Thomas de Hartmann's music may touch the hearts of many more people, both in his homeland of Ukraine and around the world."
"When a country is fighting for its freedom, preserving and protecting the arts and culture that have defined its identity becomes vital," Stasevska said. "On January 10, I look forward to celebrating some of Ukraine’s greatest composers with the incredible musicians of the Inso-Lviv Orchestra and the unmatched artistry of Joshua Bell. It will be a great honor to produce the world-premiere recording of Thomas de Hartmann’s rich and empowering Violin Concerto to be shared with audiences across the globe. As the war rages on, we continue to keep Ukraine in our hearts."
