Ludwig will be honored with a plaque on Phildelphia's South Broad Street
The Philadelphia Music Alliance has announced that David Serkin Ludwig will be among the musicians to be honored with a plaque on the Philly Music Walk of Fame. Ludwig, who is presently Dean and Director of the Music Division as well as acting chair of the composition department, was also celebrated at a recent gala evening.
Established in 1986, the Philly Music Walk of Fame commemorates the work of musicians who have made a significant contribution to the city's arts scene. The honorees are selected from all genres of music, and they include figures such as André Watts, Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, and Gary Graffman.
A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, David Serkin Ludwig has also held a number of prominent roles at the school, including as its dean and chair of composition studies.
Ludwig has received commissions from ensembles including the Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Phoenix Symphony, and Hawaii Symphony. In addition, his choral work The New Colossus opened the private prayer service for President Obama’s second inauguration.
"Congratulations to David Serkin Ludwig, dean and director of our Music Division and acting chair of the composition department, on being inducted into Philadelphia Music Alliance’s Walk of Fame!" wrote The Juilliard School in a statement.
"We’re so proud of you, David, and happy to celebrate your lasting impact on the musical landscape of Philadelphia and beyond!"
