Juilliard’s Tianjin Campus to Host Inaugural Strings Symposium

To run from May 25–27, 2024, applications to the symposium for violin and viola studies are now open

The Tianjin Juilliard School’s inaugural three-day Tianjin Juilliard Strings Symposium has been created to build an ecosystem for students and industry pedagogues to network, learn, promote, and enhance string studies.

Held from May 25–27, the symposium focusing on violin and viola will include distinguished artist-faculty such as Ju-Young Baek, Jehye Lee, Pei Li, Weigang Li, Zhou Qian, Tarn Travers, and Angelo Xiang Yu for violin; and Hanna Lee, Honggang Li, Li Sheng, and Shaowu Wang for viola. 

The event will offer participants individual and tailored lessons, masterclasses, and performances featuring both emerging talents and industry professionals.

Other opportunities include activities to exchange knowledge, refine techniques, and forge connections with international musicians, plus lay the foundations for future collaborations and advancements in the field. 

Applications to the Symposium are open in three categories: musicians aged 12 to 17, and aged 18 to 28, plus event auditors (such as violin and viola instructors, professors/mentors, or music researchers). 

Full scholarships to the Symposium are available to accepted participants aged 18 to 28 — including room and board.
